  National Arboretum
   
Rock Creek Park
Created in 1890, Rock Creek Park is full of historical landmarks and is home to the National Zoo. The park is also a place to play soccer and tennis, picnic, hike, bike, rollerblade, fish, horseback ride, listen to a concert, or attend programs with a Park Ranger.

National Zoological Park
The 168-acre National Zoo is a year-round favorite of tourists and residents alike. The giant pandas, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, rare white tigers and hundreds of other creatures populate the park. Here old-style cages are rare and many natural habitats are recreated.

Constitution Gardens
This 45-acre park features a six-acre lake, a landscaped island, walking and bike paths, picnic areas and more than 2,500 shade trees.

National Arboretum
Four hundred and fifteen acres of beautiful flowers and trees have blossomed from this experimental plant life center since 1927.

C&O Canal
Built under George Washington’s direction in the 1700s, the 184-mile Chesapeake and Ohio Canal "opened up the Western territory" to colonial influence and commerce. The canal towpath, is now a unique trail for hiking, biking and leisurely strolls.

Theodore Roosevelt Island
The island park memorial dedicated to our 26th President, an ardent conservationist, offers two and a half miles of trails, nature tours and the Roosevelt Memorial statue.

The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens
The Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens are 11 acres of ponds filled with giant water lilies that close in the heat of the day. Morning visits are suggested.

Dumbarton Oaks Museum and Gardens
Sixteen acres of formal gardens, terraces and reflecting pools surround this 18th century mansion. The Dumbarton House is furnished with authentic period pieces. Tours are available by scheduling in advance. Admission is charged.

The Awakening
"The Awakening" is a five-part cast aluminum sculpture created by J. Seward Johnson, Jr. for the 1980 International Sculpture Exhibition and Conference. The "giant" is situated on the grounds of Hains Point and the banks of the Potomac River.
